Parenting a subnet doesn't update the parents available address space. EG: 10.0.0.0/16 with 10.0.0.0-10.0.32.0 in /24 increments aren't marked in the parent as "Assigned" or "Reserved" automatically
Additionally you should be able to parent a child companies networks to the parent companies network.
EG: Company1 is the root company who owns the 10.0.0.0/8 address space
Company2 is a child company of Company1
If you create the network 10.10.0.0/16 for the child company, you should be able to mark 10.0.0.0/8 as the parent, and that reservation rolled up to the parent
